Your character’s defence score is the lower of their Dexterity or Wits. Your Defence is subtracted from melee and non-firearms ranged attacks, as well as firearms attacks at close range.

Your Defence is lowered each time you use it to defend against an incoming attack. You may choose not to use Defence against any individual attack. Defence resets on your initiative in combat.

You may spend an Instant action to Dodge, doubling your Defence for the round. If you have not acted yet this round, you may declare a dodge action in advance of your turn to gain the benefit against attacks that take place before your turn. In this case, your defence will not refresh on your initiative, but instead, when you choose to dodge.

You may spend a point of Willpower to raise your defence by 2 for the round. This bonus is doubled while dodging.
