Weapons form a fundamental element of combat. For the purposes of this game, there is a very simplified weapons system. The difference between most weapons (sword, axe, flanged mace, etc), when used in abstraction of mechanics, becomes largely academic, so we have broken it into basic types.
Weapons stats can modify attack (adds to dice pool) and/or damage (adds to damage if at least one success is scored on a hit). Damage bonuses are irrelevant if no successes are made on the attack roll.
Most Melee weapons have a Strength requirement equal to their size. Unwieldy ones could be worse. You suffer a -1 penalty on attack rolls for each point you are under the requirement of a weapon.
Really Bad Weapons
A towel. A carton of eggs. A rubber chicken. Sometimes, you aren’t going for a kill.
The Storyteller almost keeps a straight face and assigns a penalty. Most common stats are are either a -1 attack (unwieldy) or -1 damage (ineffective), or both. Most things here will do bashing. Wildly varying Strength requirements.
Mostly full of things being used for violence in lieu of their intended purpose. Here we have broken bottles, chair legs, the butt of a rifle, as well as some some smaller concealable or utility knives. Mostly Strength requirements of 1 or 2.
Generally +0 to attack, Bashing or Lethal where appropriate.
Easy to use, easy to connect, quick, and hard to avoid. Combat knives, wooden bats, hatchets, and batons are here.
+1 to attack, +0 damage, Bashing or Lethal where appropriate. Mostly Strength requirements of 1 or 2.
Tire Iron, Machete, Fire Axe. The old classics. Most serious one-handed and some smaller two-handed weapons live here.
-1 to attack, +1 damage, Bashing or Lethal where appropriate. Mostly Strength requirements of 2 or 3.
Sledgehammer, Claymore, Greataxe. Nuff said. If one of these connects, you will feel it.
-3 to attack, +2 damage, Bashing or Lethal where appropriate. Strength requirements ranging 3 to 5.
Revolver +0 to attack, +1 damage
Shotgun +0 to attack, +2 damage, Short Range
Rifle -1 to attack, +2 damage
Tommy Gun +3 to attack, +0 damage, Short Range
